Difference Between a Setting Powder and Finishing Powder

Ah powders! There are so many powders out on the market that one could literally search for days and be left with endless possibilities. Which is a good thing I might add because it allows all skin tones, complexions and skin issues a chance to find their right fit.  However, in the last few years not only have setting powders become big, but so have finishing powders as well!

So you might be wonder like the rest of the free world, what is the difference between a finishing powder and setting powder and why, oh why do I need it?! The truth is, you really don't need any powder at all if you don't really fancy it. However setting powders and finishing powders can do wonders for your makeup when used correctly!

Setting Powders! 

Setting powders are used to plain and simple set your makeup after you apply foundation.  Since foundation can cake, rub off on clothes, move around or slowly disappear throughout the day, setting powder helps to keep it on your face without going anywhere more or less.  Setting powder can be purchased either in translucent or with a bit of color to them.  Be careful on the powders with color because they can change the color of your foundation once applied.  On that same note, always check out translucent powders before you buy them.  Some can leave a whitest cast on some skin tones.  So always try out a face powder before buying regardless if you are using one with color or not.

While setting powders can be used to set your concealer, I highly recommend getting an actual setting powder that is made for concealer because some of these powders can really settle into your fine lines underneath your eyes.  Moreover, when buying a setting a powder, whether it be drugstore or high end, always look for one that is finely milled.  Finely milled powders leave your face looking as if you have nothing on and work great to give you a no powdery makeup look.  They also don't settle into fine lines or cake up very easily.  Non finely milled powders can leave you looking like you dunked your head into cake batter, will cake up and cause massive settlement into fine lines.  Finely milled powders also help to blur imperfection and give you that airbrush glowly skin effect that we all so desire!

Setting powders can be bought in either a matte or dewy type finish. Also ready the label, asking questions to the sale associate and/or try out the powder on your face (not your hand) so you know exactly what you are getting before buying. I love a dewy radiant finish so I never buy anything in a matte setting.

Finishing Powders

Finishing powders are constantly confused with setting powders. And for those who have confused them before in the past....well let's just say "a picture is worth a thousand words" (Yeah, I am looking at you Nicole and Drew!!)  Finishing powders are used to set your WHOLE makeup at the END of your routine. So after you apply your foundation, setting powder, eyeshadow, blush, bronzer, highlighter, blah blah, etc etc (cause you know some of us use at least 20 products before we call it a day) is when this powder would go on.  Right at the last step.  However, if you use a setting spray, then that would go on after your finishing powder.  Confused yet?  Finishing powder is not meant to set your makeup, but instead to give you a 'prefect blurring the lines complexion' effect due to its micro-finish HD properties that the majority of these powders have.  These Micro-finish properties allow for pores to look evened out and blurred plus gives you a radiant glow. 

When one uses these powders in photography and/or filming it makes the skin look amazing.  The only reason why the majority of stars ended up looking like they just snorted a few coke lines before heading out to their party, is because the makeup artist who used these applied way to much or used them as a setting powder.  If one applies these as a normal setting powder, then a white cast will appear causing you to look as if though a bag of flour blew up in your face (did you see  Drew!!) 

When applying a finishing powders, a fan brush is the best way to go.  Don't use a normal round big face powder brush because that will pick up to much product and leave you that possible white cast. Instead opt for a fan brush.  I always reach for my Blank Canvas F05 Fan Brush. A fan brush allows for just the right amount of product to be picked up and distributed throughout your face evenly.  It also helps to remove any excess powder you may have applied without disturbing your makeup.

First, let me apologize for not posting on my blog and my youtube channel for the last month.  I am in the process of selling my home.  So due to having multiple showings throughout the day; IF I get a chance to sit at my PC and type I'm lucky!

So about three weeks ago I order a BCC E38 Brow Finisher brush as a gift for a friend who bought brow pomade and decided to use an eyeshadow brush to fill them in with.  Needless to say, her pomade was not applying well.  So I figured I surprise her with the E38 brush that works wonders for filling in eyebrows with just about any eyebrow product!  About a week later after ordering the brush I went to retrieve the mail when I noticed a rather largish package from BCC.  At first glance I wondered if I had accidentally ordered something other then the Brow Finisher brush as the package was way to big to warrant for a brush that small.  Upon entering my house I grabbed a pair of scissors and ripped open the parcel.  To my maximum surprise I realize that BCC had sent me as a gift their new Pippa Palette that just came out!  I was totally shocked!!  I had seen the palette the day it came out and wanted it so badly, but due to selling my old house and buying a new one...lets just say "money ain't flowing the way it use to" at least not right now with all the real estate fees.  So I figured I would eventually get the palette once I moved into my new home.  However when I saw that BCC had sent it to me as a gift,  I was beyond elated by this wonderful gift.

The palette is truly gorgeous.  It comes in a love pink packaging with a very useful (no fun house) mirror.  It has six eyeshadow shades, a blusher, bronzer and highlighter all in one.  The eyeshadows are all neutral mattes. Now when I say matte, I don't mean those nasty chalky matte eyeshadows that have fallout all over the place.  I am talking about those nice matte shadows that look almost like they have a sheen to them but don't at the same time.  Since the palette is neutral, just about every skin tone can use it.  Moreover, you can rock day and night time looks with this one palette.  due to its neutrality, its very versatile for an everyday look and wear.  The best part is that its an all in one palette.  The only other palette I have like this is from Tarte which I love because its great for traveling.  Since the Pippa palette comes in a cardboard case, it great for travelling and well protected from damage in your bag.  The fallout in this palette was basically none.  BCC did a great job in tackling this issue with their matte colors.  Matte colors tend to have a lot of fallout, but in this palette I had no issues whatsoever.  Even when I applied the black shadow in the outer part of my eye, I had no fallout underneath my eye.  The colors blend well and work amazing with each other.  So you won't find the random "this sticks out" colors in this palette.  This palette really surprised me in its look, feel, pigmentation and blendability.   

The blusher is a beautiful rosey shade that is highly pigmented.  I learned that the hard way when I applied to much.  A little really does go a long way.  It really leaves your cheeks with a natural rose finish.  The bronzer has a light brownish undertone.  I would of preferred a grey undertone, however this one work wells.  Its not red or orange in its undertone so just about any skin tone can use it.  The bronzer looked lovely on my fair complexion without looking muddy, dirty or over the top.  The highlighter is totally to die for.  It is completely pigmented, very visible when worn but lacks shimmer in it which works great to not let you look like a disco ball. I don't really like shimmer or sparkle in highlighters as they come across fake and totally over the top.  So this highlighter was just beautiful.

All the names of the colors on the palette were personalized by Pippa who is a model and a makeup artist.  I found that part truly touching as she named each color after either a person, beloved animal or nickname from her life.  Its interesting to be able to see a bit of a persons life in the products they make.

I have worn this palette non-stop since I got it and every time I wear it, people always comment on how amazing the colors look. I will be doing a Youtube channel showing swatches of each color.  I would totally recommend picking up this palette before it discountined as it is a limited edition!  So truly, thank you BCC for this lovely gift.  This is now my traveling palette as well due to its all in one functionality.

Best Brushes for Contouring for Beginners, Intermediate and Advance!

I like to contour as much as the next guy (girl).  Contouring allows you to drop five pounds on your face, crave out your cheek bones, hide a double chin and leave you with a beautiful bronzy looking effect. However with that being said, using the wrong tools and bronzer shade can leaving you with a muddy or seriously burnt looking face.  Part of understanding contouring, is understanding the shape of your face.  Once you figure out what face shape you were naturally born with, you can then contour to your hearts desire.  

I have written before on the art of contouring and the makeup products needed to achieve this effect.  However, it takes more then just makeup to get a nice crisp bronzy look.  Makeup brushes are the number one items needed that will either make or break your look.  The biggest problems with makeup brushes is that the beauty industry has been inundated by them, that it is very easy to get lost in a sea of bristles.  Moreover some companies have so many brushes that a girl doesn't know which ones are appropriate to use based on skill levels.  So today, I am going to break it down for you, on what type of makeup brushes are useful depending on where your makeup "education" lies!

Brushes by Skill Level

When I first started out with makeup, I had NO clue what I was doing.  I remember getting a compact that had a blush, bronzer and highlighter, and rubbing the highlighter all over my face because I thought it was just another pretty face powder.  Well needless to say, I looked like a disco ball all day long.  To make matters worse, I applied it with a big round face powder brush that left highlighter on face, hair and neck.  It was just a royal mess.  But hey, at least bikers were able to see me that night when I went for a walk with the dog!  Thank God for Youtube where I was able to evolve and learn where to properly apply highlighter and with what brush.

When it comes to contouring, it isn't something you learn overnight.  It takes a lot of trial and error before you prefect the art.  Moreover, for beginners picking the right brush is everything.

Beginners

BCC F18 Short Duo Fibre Brush

For beginners, the best brush to start out with is a small and short duo fibre brush.  This small brush allows you to pick up minimal bronzer in order to avoid over doing it while you learn to contour.  Remember, its always easier to place more product on your face then it is to take off.  Applying a little at a time lets you see your progress and how well your contouring is turning out.  Due to the small head of this brush, the bristles fit right into the hollow of the cheeks giving you fool proof lines.  It also allows you to get into the outer hairline of your forehead without applying bronzer right into your hair.  This brush also helps to contour underneath your chin without getting it all over the place. What I like about duo fibre brushes; due to their long bristle head, they work amazingly to blend out your contour and make it seem flawless.  This brush is truly awesome for beginners who need to start out slowly and see their progress drawing lines as they move along.  

Intermediates   

BCC F16 Large Contour/Powder Brush

One thing I love about large tapered contour/powder brushes is their ability to place color right on the contour lines of your face.  They also work well to apply bronzer and blush to your cheeks.  Since tapered contour brushes are shaped with a dome pointed head, the bristles work wonders to apply makeup only in the areas intended. Furthermore, the pointed head leaves behind a beautiful wash of color in the places meant for contouring without making a harsh line.  The dome head also works to blend out the color while keeping it within the bounds of your contour lines.  I found that this brush works amazing when contouring the cheeks and jawbone.  Since our jaw runs along the rim of our lower face and mouth, at times a more fuller brush can deposit color to the lower cheeks leaving you with a muddy look.  A large tapered brush helps to minimize this issue by depositing color ONLY where needed.  The pointed head is great for those who have an intermediate level of bronzing and can contour and blend at the same time without getting bronzer in all the wrong places.  

Advanced

BCC F30 Sculpt Brush

When I finally learned how to contour with precision, I decided to play with the big boys of makeup brushes.  A sculpting brush; while can seem intimidating, when used correctly can leave you with nice precision lines on your cheek bones and jawline.  It works great to contour your forehead and temples.  Since the brush is made to be narrow and rectangular, it literally gets into the hollow of your cheeks with no problem.  The only issue with this brush is that if you lack the skills on how to contour, this brush will leave with the harshest line that a 737 plane can land on from up far.  Moreover, you need to know how to blend well in order to use this brush.  If not, your lines will stand out and look extremely unnatural.  Its best to play with this brush at home before testing it out in public.  I would only recommend this brush once you have mastered the art of contouring and are not intimidated by its usual shape.

BCC F21 Angled Contour Face Brush

Out of all the brushes, the one that has always stood out to me that can be used at any level is an Angled Contour Face Brush.  These brushes are made with kabuki bristles that are cut to an angular shape.  This brush works amazing to contour the whole face.  Moreover, since this brush is user friendly, it can contour, blend and buff your makeup all in one.  I find this brush to be the most versatile of them all and so user friendly.  This brush works great in the hands of beginners to expert level makeup lovers.

So, in case you haven't heard,Youtube is dangerous!! Now a days, you can use Youtube for anything. From learning how to apply makeup, to unlocking your car if you locked the keys inside...literally. It also has become the best form of free advertisement for companies. If you want honest reviews on a beauty product and don't trust the company's take on it, (don't blame you) you can either log on to makeupalley.com or Youtube for true honest customer reviews.

I personally don't have cable in my house.  I do have ONE television in my house that I recently bought after going 14 years without.  However without cable, I don't get bombarded with advertisements on shit to buy (sorry to say it).  Nonetheless, with all that being said I also never know what is going on in the beauty world unless I spend all day googling Sephora or the net.  With Youtube, I have been able to hear about and "check out new products" without having to buy it myself or waste time in the store on crap items.  Youtube has allowed me (or shall I say companies) to be exposed to free advertisement by real people who are not are being paid to air their products on their channel.  Basically someone like me who talks about beauty products because I want to and not because someone offered me money to put it as a segment on my channel.  

I am going to be starting a "Youtube made me buy it" segment so that I can feature the products on my blog and Youtube channel that I probably would of never heard of and/or bought had Youtube not been around!  I am also going to mention the Youtubers who mentioned these products and influenced me into buy the item!

Colleen Rothschild Dual Action Cleansing Balm - $65.00 US

I heard about this cleansing balm from Nicole Guerriero last year in May, when she featured it on her channel.  She mentioned on how Colleen Rothschild had sent her this product and how amazing it was to literally remove all your makeup.  Nicole even showed a clip of herself using this product and how smoothly all the makeup wiped off.  I bought this right away and truly this has been my go to for removing all my makeup PLUS my waterpoof mascara with no hassle.  One of the best products I have ever invested in!  Thank you, Nicole!

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette - $63.00 CDN

Before buying this palette, I googled Youtube to see what types of look one can do with this chocolate bar looking thing.  Needless to say I was amazed at the amount of people who had featured this product on their channel.  However it was one Youtuber MakeupbyAmarie who influenced me to buy it!  The main reason was because her physical features looked very much like mine.  Dark hair, dark eyes and light skin.  Based on that I figured if the colors worked well on her, then they for sure would look good on me.  I bought it right away and from then till now have not stopped sniffing it due to the amazing smell of chocolate that it gives off!  And also because the colors are fantastic, amazing pigmentation, blendable and long wearing!

Loreal Infallable Iced Latte

Tati from Glamlifeguru was the first person I ever heard talk about this beautiful eyeshadow!  I was so in love with it that I literally ran that week to my drugstore to go buy it.  However they were all completely out of stock and had no clue when they were receiving more in this shade.  So I had to order it online from Amazon.com and have it shipped to me in Canada.  I know, first world problems.  But still, when you see something this beautiful, you go for it.  This  color truly glides on beautifully and blends so well for being almost a cream/pressed product.

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Color Clay Eye & Cheek Palette - $62.00 CDN

I heard about this Tarte palette from Sephora. However I wasn't sure if it was for me.  Baliey B hooked me on this palette from the moment I first saw her review it.  So as soon as I googled Youtube and came across her channel I was sold.  Not only because of the amazing colors this palette has, but because you get six eyeshadows (matte and shimmer), one highlighter, one bronzer and a blush.  Baliey made an impressive review on this palette and how it was nicely compacted to offer everything you needed in one.  I have been in love with the product from the moment I bought it!  So worth the money!

Blank Canvas Cosmetics 

Themakeupchair by Sinead was the first person to introduce me to Blank Canvas Cosmetics makeup brushes.  I was googling Youtube in order to learn about highlighting and contouring when I came across her channel and saw the makeup brushes she was using.  I then saw another video posted by her talking about the brushes themselves.  I was so captivated by the quality of these brushes that I went to BCC website and bought their 15 piece set brush set without thinking it over twice!  Needless to say, I have never looked back and totally use their brushes everyday and recommend them to everyone!  This truly is the BEST "Youtube made me buy it" influence for me! 

Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara - $37.00 CDN

I have been watching Makeupbytiffanyd for the longest.  One of the products that she constantly mentions on her channel is the Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara that she always stated made her already long lashes even longer.  I have seen her use this mascara many times in many of her makeup videos and was so impressed by the results that I ordered one from Sephora.  I won't lie, this mascara has got to be the most expensive mascara I have EVER bought.  I normally buy drugstore mascara and mainly the L'oreal brand in this category.  However, something about this mascara truly caught my eye (no pun intended)!  I have to say, so far so good! Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette - $62.00 CDN

Another thing that Makeupbytiffanyd made me buy (and yes she really made me buy this one) was the Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette.  I was totally dead set against buying this because I had NO CLUE on how I was even going to use all the cool and warm tone shades in this palette. When I first saw this palette, it did nothing to attract me.  However after watching her use this Blueberry Swirl shade in a makeup tutorial; I was so blown away by her creativity and amazing (not circus looking) results that I ordered it right then and there.  I have been loving it ever since!

Beauty Blender - $26.00 CDN

If you don't know what a beauty blender is by now, then you need to run to Sephora, buy one and come back here so you can keep reading up on this magical tool!  I was one of those people who never heard of a beauty blender till Emilynoel83 featured this product in one of her videos.  After that, I was hooked.  Though this sponge may look like any other egg shaped sponge, but don't be fooled!  Nothing works like the original beauty blender in how it delivers and makes your makeup literally look flawless and magically!  This is the best item hands down to buy if you want that Instyle-magazine-flawless-finish-front-cover-like-foundation look! Though $26 might seem pricey for a sponge, but its worth every penny!!

Shiseido Facial Cotton - $11.00 CDN

I first heard about this cotton when Coffeebreakwithdani mentioned it on her channel.   She mentioned that this facial cotton literally felt like you were rubbing a newborn baby's butt on your face. Literally, she said that which really made me laugh out loud at the comment and the fact that a product could actually feel like that.  Nonetheless, I was so curious that I ordered it online and tried it out.  Oh my God, this thing literally feels like a newborn unicorn baby's butt!  It is one of the softest cottons facial pads I have ever used.  These facial pads also don't absorb so much water so you need less product which in return causes you to run out of your face toners and cleansers a lot slower! While yes you only get 120 pads for $11.00, however they truly are worth the price if you want to feel a unicorns baby butt on your face!

Colourpop I Heart This - $5.00 US

Coffeebreakwithdani also made me buy Colourpop eyeshadows and lippie.  I actually only own the 'I Heart This' eye-shadow and Skimpy lippie.  These two items are literally amazing in pigmentation and texture.  These shadows feel like a cream powder texture that glide on amazing on the eyes.  This color is so iridescent that it leaves your eyes with a sparkling glow!  The greatest thing is, that they are only $5.00 each item! Now that's a steal if you ever heard of one!

  Dior Diorshow Mazimizer Lash Primer - $35.00 CDN

Kandee Johnson is a makeup artist that has been around on youtube since like forever.  She was the first makeup Youtube Guru that I ever followed.  I loved watching her for years as she explained not only tips and tricks about makeup, but also about makeup products that were actually worth your money.  In one of her Sephora hauls she pulled on this Dior lash primer and I was hooked.  I bought this right away hoping that it would help my non waterproof and waterproof mascara stick.  Sure enough it did and truly now I can't go without lash primer. I know some people think its a waste of money, but since using this I haven't had any mascara smudge on me!

Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray - $36.00 CDN

Kandee Johnson was the first person to introduce me to setting sprays in general.  Prior to watching her video on setting sprays;  I already knew about primers, but never heard the words uttered "setting spray" until I watched her video on how to keep your makeup looking good all day.  The one she mentioned was called Model in a Bottle.  However I was not able to find that brand in Canada at that time.  So when googling setting sprays, UD all Nighter setting spray came up on Sephora and I bought it right away and never looked back!  While its not the one she mentioned, however she educated me on things I had never heard about but knew I needed in order to keep my makeup looking fresh, clean and still on my face as the night rolled around!

Is There a Difference Between Contouring and Bronzing?

Lately I have been seeing people asking this question.  Is there a difference between contouring and bronzing?  The answer is, it depends.  Some people will contour at the same time they bronze with the same products.  Others use two different products and two different makeup brushes to achieve these two methods.  At the end of the day it depends what look you are going for.

I normally contour and bronze at the same time.  However on the days when I have time and really want that contouring defined line, I will combine these two methods above by using specific brushes and bronzers.  Its not that hard and very easy to achieve.  However in order to get these two in one look, you need the proper makeup brushes and products.  No matter what you tell yourself, without the proper tools your contouring and bronzing will not come out right.  There lies the difference between your face looking dirty and your face looking well defined.

When contouring your face, you need know where to find and draw the lines that naturally create a shadows on your face. Those are lines that you want to define and crave out in order to achieve that contour look.  However when doing this method pay attention.  Contour needs to go with the shape of your face.  Its important you understand the shape of your face before you start contouring.  If not, then you may draw lines that extenuate unnatural areas of your face leaving a not so attractive look.  Once you find those areas of your face to contour, use the proper makeup brush(es) and products to achieve this look.

Contouring

 

So first things first, you need to decide if you want to only contour, only bronze or both.  Because if you apply bronzer in the same exact areas as of your contouring, then you face is going to look dirty as you will cover way to much with bronzer.  If you plan to contour and bronze, then you need to adjust the amount of product and areas you going to cover with these products.  So let's start off with contouring and drawing those lines!  

Tools & Products

First you want to get yourself a good contouring product that has grey not red or orange undertones.  If you use red or orange undertone contour product, it will for sure stand out in a not so attractive way.  So stick to grey for a more natural look.  I normally use a cream bronzer for contouring because it's easy to blend and works better when I apply bronzer over it.

My go to cream contour is Soliel Tan de Chanel.  I love this product for many reasons.  First, while it may be pricey, however it comes a large jar that more than justifies the cost.  I have been using this product for almost a year, not even half way through and has not dried out nor does it look like it will any time soon.  Second, the price.  For a jar this size for only $51 CDN is amazing.  This product is literally the size of the whole palm of my hand.  Third, this has proper undertones.  You always want to go for a grey undertone bronzer when contouring. If you go for a red or orange, it will make your face look weird and stand out in many ways.  Think "I have spent to much time in the tanning booth" burnt look.  So stay away from red or orange bronzers when contouring.

For contouring you will need a few brushes, potentially.  First, you will need a contouring brush to apply this cream to hallow out your cheek bones, sides of your nose, underneath your jaw and lip, on your temples and upper outer corners of your hairline.

The Blank Canvas Cosmetics F30 Sculpt Brush works wonders to draw a fine and precise line on your cheekbones and upper outer corners of your hairline.  This brush has great control and literally leaves you with the best lines I have ever seen.  You can also use this brush for blending in your contour, however if you have a small face then brush might be to much for you.

In that case I recommend using Blank Canvas Cosmetics F21 Angled Contour Face Brush which works wonders not only for small faces but to seamlessly blend in your contour.  Due to the fact that this brush is angled, it works beautifully on the hollows of your cheeks and around your face without getting makeup in your hair.  Brushes that lack the angled shape tend to get makeup in your hair.  However since our foreheads are normally rounded and not straight, this brush fits right into the rounded angles and blends out the makeup.  Also works wonders to blend underneath your chin and down your neck.   

Bronzer

Bronzing is a bit different then contouring in the aspect that you apply product in larger areas of your face but more subtly.  If you over do this part on top of your contouring, then you for sure will look like someone who has had way to much time in the sun in all the wrong ways.  You don't want to walk away looking unnaturally brown or bronzed.  So make sure to apply bronzer light handed with  undertones that work for you.

Tools & Products

When bronzing, always remember that a sun kissed look is what you are going for.  It very easy with bronzer to go overboard and look like you just stepped out of a long season from a tanning booth.  With bronzer, here is where you are allowed to used red or orange undertones if you desire.  However make sure to first check your own skins undertone and see if these colors will work for you.  You don't want to look like an orange carrot or sun burnt victim if the color is all wrong.  If all else fails, then stick to grey undertones which always look great! Moreover, stay away from glitter/shimmery bronzers.  While they look nice, they TOTALLY look unnatural unless that is the look you are going for.  Glitter/shimmery bronzers work best at night, for a party or club type atmosphere.  But for normal everyday wear, it can look way to overdone.

One of the best bronzers I have ever used is Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer Milk Chocolate.  You can get this bronzer in two colors.  Either light/medium or a darker shade.  This bronzer has great undertones to work with just about everyone's skin.  It is also matte so it leaves you with a beautiful realistic glow.   The best part about this bronzer is not only the color it leaves you, but that fact that it smells like chocolate!! Hey for a girl like me who is addicted to chocolate, I don't mind having it on my face with zero calorie guilty!!

There are two brushes that come to mind when applying bronzer to the face in my opinion that work wonders each time.  Either a nice large contour brush or an angled brush.

The Blank Canvas Cosmetics F16 Large Contour/Powder Brush is shaped in a tear drop form which works wonders to pick up product at the tip so that you can apply to diagonally down and up the hollows of the cheeks and around the temples and forehead.  Due to its tear shaped design, it allows you to get apply your bronzer right where you need it without smudge your face.

The Blank Canvas Cosmetics F04 Angled Contour Face Brush works well to apply bronzer on the apples of your cheeks and blend it in with your blush if you are applying some on top.  This brush has an angled head which helps to get the bronzer all the way up to the hairline right next to your temples.  You can also bronze with this brush around your forehead due to its angled shape.  Moreover due to this brush having a white head, you can see if you have picked up to much or too little bronzer.

If you plan to both contour and bronze, remember less is more.  I can't stress that point enough. I have seen girls who literally look sun burnt due to over doing it.  The more natural your contour and bronzing look, the more attractive and natural looking you will come out!

Unless you like sporting the brunt look! Then hey as the old saying goes "to each his own" right!

So there you have it! Two concepts that you can combine in one (or two) depending on what type of look you are going for!

Must Have Makeup Brushes For The Eyes!

By now you all know about my Blank Canvas Cosmetics (BCC) obsession and their makeup brushes.   So no need to repeat it here, unless you really want to hear it then click here!! Since the New Year has arrived, I decided to write about my must have 2015 makeup brushes for the eyes that we all need in our collection in order to achieve that perfect look.

I get asked all the time what type of eye brushes one should have when starting out. I think eye brushes are important because it took me years to figure out why my eye makeup never looked professional. It wasn't until I educated myself that I realized that one makeup brush can't do it all. However with that being said you don't need 50 eye brushes either to achieve a nice look. So, I decided to narrow down the list to these eight brushes that I believe to be essential and useful for any makeup collection! What I love about these brushes and BCC is that they are very affordable and the price ranges from as low as $9.00 to the highest of $14 for the brushes mentioned below!

Now as I always state in all my post, you don't have to buy these type of brushes just from BCC. However if you are looking for good quality brushes, at affordable prices with amazing shipping rates, then this company is surely for you!!

The E24 Flat Shader/Lay Down Brush is prefect for picking up and applying product to your eyelid.  Its made from soft natural goat hair so it's fluffy and firm at the same time which help for packing on the eyeshadow.  It's easy to clean and always come back white after each wash.  I have never had any shedding issue with this brush.

The F05 Fan Brush is a face brush, yes I know.  However it works great to sweep away fallout from your eyeshadow as it falls on your face and underneath your eye area.  This brush works great to leave no track of eyeshadow on your face and sweep it away gently without messing up your concealer or foundation.  I love this brush and use it when applying dark eyeshadow.  Makes clean up easy and fast! 

The E44 Flat Brush is a must!  I literally sang it's praise when this brush came out!  I was finally able to apply eyeliner underneath my eye in a straight line close the waterline with no problem.  I love how this brush works so well by gently pressing in the cream or powder eyeliner without smudging or leaving behind streaks!  This brush also works well to clean up your eyeshadow if you went to far out from the corner of your eye.  It cleans it up in one swipe leaving behind a nice cut angle on your eye.  This brush is made from synthetic fibers so it works well with cream and powdered products. 

The E39 Bent Eyeliner Brush is a must have!!  Let's be honest I can barely draw a straight line to save my life.  Yet with this brush I am able to work in my eyeliner both on top and bottom of my lashes with ease.  It really works to not get caught in between my lashes and can be used in either hand with no problem.  It works amazing to draw a cat eye with your cream eyeliner. The brush is made of synthetic fibers so I literally clean it with a baby wipe between usage until the end of the week when I give it a deep cleaning!  Either way it always comes out clean and ready for another day. 

The E32 Tapered Crease Blender Brush is prefect for seamless blending of your eyeshadow along the lid and crease.  Its made from all natural high grade goat hair so its very soft.  I love this brush because it blends in my makeup so well in my crease that it leaves behind no harsh lines.  Though this brush is very soft, yet has the ability to really work in your eyeshadow with simple strokes.  I literally use and abuse this brush to the point that I own two just in case the first one ever fails on me! I don't know how my eye makeup ever got around without it.

 The E10 Small Socket Blender Brush is hands down my favorite brush!  We all have eye sockets and ever single person who uses transitional eyeshadow colors knows how important it is to get that color on the socket just right.  This brush literally fits right in the socket of the eye with ease and doesn't allow the eyeshadow to get all over the place.  It also helps to blend the color in and leave no harsh line behind.  I always follow up with my E32 Tapered Crease Blender Brush for better blending.  Nonetheless when in a hurry, this brush will help in the blending department.   

The E26 Blending Brush is prefect for blending in your eyeshadow on your lid.  Since a lot of us wear two to three different shades on our lids to get a multi-dimensional look, this brush helps to blend it all in order to get a seamless no harsh line effect.  This brush is made of natural goat hair that is ever so soft and easy to clean.  My eyeshadow no matter how dark has never stained this brush though the hairs are white.  I have never had any shedding issues and it dries really fast after a deep clean.

The E23 Pencil Brush is so versatile that I can't begin to describe it.  You can use to apply shadow in your crease for a precise placement.  You can use it to apply shadow to the inner corner of your eye, the outer edges of your eye, to the lash line on the lower eyelid, to smudge in eyeliner or to add shadow in that same area.  I love this brush.  If I could own 100 of these I would.  Well maybe not...but you get my obsession.

As you all know by now, I am completely in love with BCC!  I mean I love this company so much that I think I literally blog about them every month.  Obsessed much?! Maybe!  But who cares when my makeup is always on point!  

I have written about their must have makeup brushes (click here for that review).  I have also written about their HD multicolor face brush collection (click here for that review).  I have also dazzled about their 15 piece makeup brush set which was my first (big) purchase from them and what started my whole addiction! (Click here for that review as well!)  Needless to say I own just about every brush they have and every few months they come out with something new! 

Back in the spring/summer they came with their F30 Sculpt brush for contouring.  I was so excited that I couldn't wait to order it.  However it seemed always out of stock because of the other crazy in love fanatics like me who seem to live on the BCC website.  They were always one mouse click ahead of me!  Nonetheless, I decided to let the hot brush cool for a bit before I nabbed one.  So in November I finally got my chance! When this arrived to my house I didn't know what to do with it.  I was dying to use it right away, but you always need to wash your brushes before breaking them in.  So it took about a week before I got around to washing it, letting it dry and putting it to good use!

I highlight and contour my face every time I wear makeup.  I can't remember the last time I didn't.  BCC was the first company I used to do highlighting and contour with, with their 6 Contour and Highlight Palette (click here for that review).  However, I like cream products better because I feel they work well on my skin.  Nonetheless, my BCC palette is never to far out of reach because I can still use it to set my contouring and highlighting with.

I normally contour my face with my Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzer.  In order to bronze, I was using my F21 HD Angled Contour Brush which works awesome on getting those nice angles on your face.  However, once I saw the F30 Sculpt Brush, I knew I had to try it. 

The F30 brush is very sturdy.  It comes with a nice wide handle for great precision work.  The head is made in a rectangular shape with dense but soft bristles which allows you to contour perfectly right underneath and along your jaw bone area, on the hollows of your cheeks and around your forehead.  blending is easy as long you use the brush in an upward motion and then front and back on your cheekbones and forehead to reduce harsh lines.  If you use a downward motion, you will get bronzer in areas of your face that will not look flattering.  I haven't tried it this on nose, as my nose is small and the brush seemed to big for that area.   Another thing to keep in mind, the bristles of this brush are very black.  So when I first stuck this brush right into my Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzer, I didn't think it picked up enough product and did it a few more times.  Needless to say my contouring was very dark.  This brush with one swipe; even if you don't see it, it picks up more than enough product.  So go easy on the swiping to avoid looking like you spend way to much time in the sun on a winter morning.  Remember you can always add more contouring, but its harder to take it away.

The important thing to remember about this brush is to maintain control in order to get the bronzer and contouring lines you are looking for.  This product is really a professional brush hands down.  I would recommend if you haven't ever contoured before, that you first start out with the F21 HD Angled Contour Brush in order to learn this technique.  Once you have mastered contouring, then for sure move up to this F30 in order to get that precised sculpted look.  This F30 brush is beautiful and truly does what its name states it does, but its no joke.  It even took me a few tries to understand this brush and realize that it wasn't like my F21 brush or an other contouring brush for that matter.  While it did the same work, but again I had to learn the mechanics (if I can say that) of the brush in order to truly see its great effects. 

However side note, if you have a small face I would not recommend the F30 brush.  This brush works great for those with medium to large faces.  Individuals with small faces will struggle to keep bronzers off areas it shouldn't be on their face.  For small faces the F21 HD Angled Contour Brush works great because its easier to manipulate in areas that larger brush struggles to get in while still giving you the same exact results.  And this is why I love this company!  They have made brushes that work for all face shapes and sizes in order to reap the benefits all in the same way!  So for sure check this F30 brush out if you are interested in getting that beautiful and classic sculpted contouring look on your face! 

I just ordered some new brushes that I will review this month once they come in!  Yes I know, to think I thought I had them all.  BCC, you keep me on my toes!!
